How to reach Victoria Memorial-Kolkata

Directions to Reach Victoria Memorial: Victoria Memorial being a prominent tourist site in Kolkata can be accessed by various means – metro, bus, taxi, auto rickshaws and ferries. The Victoria Memorial is on the north of Rabindra Sadan; South of Kolkata Maidan and Golf Club, East of Race Course, and West of St. Paul’s Cathedral.

The closest Metros to the Victoria Memorial are the Maidan Metro and the Rabindra Sadan Metro. Maidan Metro Station falls on Jawaharlal Nehru Road at Middleton Street and the Rabindra Sadan Metro is at the junction of Chowringhee Road and Jawaharlal Nehru Road. From either of these metro stations, Victoria Memorial is within walking distance.

Victoria Memorial is also on the southeast of Vidyasagar Setu (Bridge) and is a couple of kilometres away from the Princep Ghat and Bidhan Ghat from where ferries ply to transport across the river to Howrah or for simply cruising on the river.

Ferries on Hooghly are as old as the river. Ferry ride is the most economical mode of transport in Kolkata especially if crossing the river to Howrah is involved. It takes about 15 minutes to cross the river and less than Rs. 5 per ride. And also can cruise for hours together in a ferry on the river. Infact the ferries are cheap and quick alternative to the drive on the Howrah Bridge which takes a lot longer travel time owing to the massive and continuous flow of traffic – even off-rush hours.

The Princep Ghat – named after an Anglo-Indian Scholar – James Princep and built during the British rule - is one of the most beautiful Ghats of Kolkata which is situated on the Kolkata riverbank of Hooghly from where ferries commence to cross over to Howrah. There are several other prominent and popular Ghats of Kolkata. ‘Ghats’ are huge pavilions attached to stairways that descend to the river and on the Ghats you will find river-side flea-markets selling flowers, fruits, foods, drinks and small handicrafts. The Ghats are also where the ferry rides commence.

Kolkata State Transport buses have the most exhaustive bus network in the city and ply frequently so you can find a bus to and from the Victoria Memorial all through the day.

Victoria Memorial is about 6 kilometres from the Sealdah Railway Station and about 20 kilometres from Kolkata Airport from where all modes of transport are available.
