As per Hindu legends, during the Dwapara Yuga (era), Barsana was the capital of King Vrishabhanu. Vrishabhanu was the father of Radharani (consort of Krishna). Radharani was born in this place. Also, she had spent wonderful times with Lord Krishna at this place. Radharani was the most beloved gopi (cowherd girl) of Lord Krishna. The love and affection between them is written in poetic manner, deep and philosophical interpretations are also made about the same. Barsana is located at a distance of 50km from Mathura and has shared the same historical background. As a small town it was under the control of the same rulers that of Mathura.
