Agra, Uttar Pradesh: Agra is famous for one of the seven wonders of world – Taj Mahal. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. Agra city is the third largest city situated in western Uttar Pradesh on the banks of River Yamuna. It is bounded by Mathura on north, by Dholpur on south, by Firozabad on east, by Fatehabad on south-east and by Bharatpur on west. Geographically it is situated at 7°11′N 78°01′E. It is at an elevation of 561 feet or 171 meters above the sea level.

Agra is the first of all tourist destinations in India. This city with multi-colored illuminations provides a marvelous view during night and also offers a hearty welcome to the tourists. Several high standard resorts and hotels add enjoyment of the picnic and vacation to its pinnacle in Agra.

Agra Fort is another major tourist destination in Agra. It is just 2.5 kms away from its most famous sister monument, Taj Mahal. This was built in Hindu and Islamic style of architecture. This red sandstone monument regained its glory during the reign of Shah Jahan. Agra Fort has the largest state treasury and mint. It was visited by many foreign ambassadors and travelers.

Apart from monuments, Agra has nearly 7200 Small Scale Industries which are spread all over the district. Agra is famous for Zari Zardozi, Handicrafts, Leather Goods, Marvel and Stone Carving and Inlay work.  The leather industry is one among the most traditional industries of Agra.

Agra city has a huge number of garment and apparel manufacturers and exporters. Kinari Bazar in Agra is famous for its garments and jewelry shops. It has the largest Silver and Gold Jewelry hub at Choube Ji Ka Fatak. This city is an important market for automobile industry.

Agra has always been a centre for education and learning. The average literacy rate in Agra is 65% which is more than the average literacy rate of India. 

Agra offers a wide variety of spicy and mouthwatering dishes for both tourists and civilians. Apart from delicious Mughlai cuisine, one can enjoy variety of eating options provided by the city. From spicy Mughlai cuisine to splendid multi-cuisine menus, restaurants provide a great experience of tasting. Do not forget to taste kababs, boti kabab, seekh and tandoori chicken and tandoori fish too. Dalmoth is the famous local salty snack. Petha and gazak are the famous sweets in Agra.

The nearest big towns to Agra are Delhi at 200 km and Jaipur at 233 km, respectively.
