Medaram Sammakka Sarakka Jatara: Sammakka Sarakka is a tribal festival and also a mela (jatara), held at Medaram village of Warangal district in Andhra Pradesh, India. This mela is popularly called as Sammakka Jatara, Medaram Jatara, Sammakka Sarakka Festival & Medaram Sammakka Sarakka Jatara.
Sammakka Sarakka is a huge festival of Telangana people that marks the fight of Sammakka and Saralamma (a mother and daughter) with the powerful rulers against an unfair law. It is a 3 days festival starts at Medaram in Tadvai mandal that held once in 2 years. It is a major festival/Jatara after kumbh mela that attracts millions of people all over the country. As per the records, the previous Jatara which was held in 2012 had 10 million devotees visited/attended this Jatara.
Sammakka Sarakka Jatara dates 2014: This Year Medaram Sammakka Sarakka Jatara/Festival will be held from February 12 - 15 2014 (Magha Sudha Pournami Days).
History/Origin of Sammakka Sarakka Jatara :
As per the tribal story, 700 years ago in 13th century, some tribal (Koya) people went into the forest for hunting and found a baby girl (Sammakka) playing among the tigers. Tribal people took that baby girl along with them to their habitat and she was adopted by the head of the tribe (koya community).
