Punjab, quite literally, the land of the five rivers, is the home of Sikhism, one of India’s major religions. Being strategically located, this fertile land of wheat fields has seen and blended the different cultures of the time, from the Vedic, to Buddhist, to the Islamic. The result is a vibrant repertoire of crafts, music and folk dances like the vigorous and ever popular ‘Bhangra’. The state is also famous for the colourful and pulsating festivals celebrated with typical ‘punjabi’ zest and fervour. The river banks of Punjab Rivers have also given rise to several cities each with its own distinct flavour and attractions.
