Golden Temple Local Tourism information:

Taking Photographs is permitted on the outside circle of the Amrit Sarovar, but not inside the actual temple itself. Both men and women devotees should cover their heads with kerchiefs, and remove their shoes while they are in the temple surroundings. Before entering into the temple, one can deposit their shoes and chappals at the subterranean building to the left of the main entrance. Sikh symbols and religious artefacts like swords, khandas, karas, daggers are available in the small shops which are located close to the Golden Temple. CDs relateing to chants, Punjabi music, and temple recordings are also available to pilgrims in the shops at the temple.

Accommodation near Golden temple or Harmandir Sahib:
The Harmandir Sahib offers free or low cost accommodations to the visitors in historical 'Guru Ram Das Niwas' which was built by Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee during 1931 in the temple complex. There are also rooms available at low cost (50 to 100 INR) in the temple complex. There are six 'Asthan inns' providing economy lodging facilities for the visitors which are maintained by Harmandir Sahib temple authorities. The reception counters at these Inns work round the clock to serve the devotees. Some more of the lodging facilities around the temple complex run by Harmandir Sahib Authorities are -

Guru Nanak Niwas: Guru Nanak Niwas houses different offices of the SGPC (Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee) and also provide lodging facilities for devotees.

Guru Arjan Dev Niwas: Guru Arjan Dev Niwas is located at the entrance of the main Sarai area. This building houses a post office, and a branch of Punjab & Sind Bank. The central booking counter for all accommodations is located here.

New Akal Rest House: New Akal Rest House is located behind the Guru Arjan Dev Niwas. There are 49 rooms, out of which five rooms are catered exclusively for foreign tourists.

Guru Hargobind Niwas: Guru Hargobind Niwas is located near Gurdawara Baba Atal Rai Sahib. It houses Sri Guru Ramdas Library, and also provides lodging facilities for pilgrims.

Mata Ganga Ji Niwas: It is located quite opposite to the Guru Hargobind Niwas. It houses Internet Department of SGPC, and also provides lodging facilities for tourists.

Guru Gobind Singh NRI Yatra Niwas: This building has 66 rooms, and it provides accommodation only for foreign tourists.
