Thiruvanchikulam Mahadeva Temple is one of the oldest Shiva temples in South India. The deity is the family deity of the Cochin Royal Family. The temple is known for its various images of Lord Shiva such as Gopu Ram Thevar, Dakshinamoorthy, Pasupathy, Natakkal Shivan, Sandhyavela Shivan, Palliyara Shivan, Unni Thevar and Konnakkal Shivan.
An annual event called "Anayottam" (elephant race) is organized in the temple. It is very interesting to watch the huge built participate in the race.
Maha Shivaratri is the most famous festival celebrated here that attracts a huge number of devotees. The temple houses images of other gods and goddesses in small shrines in the temple premises.
