About Kukkaranahalli Lake Information-Mysore

Built by Dewan Poornaiah in 1864, the Kukkaranahalli Lake is located in the peaceful and serene vicinity of the Mysore University. The lake extensive over 120 acres has more than 180 types of birds including the aquatic kind. The lake plays host to over 30 species of migratory birds that fly all the way from far flung areas such as the cold environs of Siberia, to breed here.

The lake has been a source of inspiration to many Karnataka s poets and writers. The charm and the splendour of the lake find mention in their works. Administered by the Mysore University, the lake is used by the naval wing of the National Cadet Corps to provide boat-pulling training to its cadets for the annual boat-pulling competition.

There is a sidewalk along the lake with shaded stone benches for people to sit, relax and enjoy the scenic loveliness of nature.
