Maddur is a small town situated in the Mandya district of the southern state of Karnataka, India. It lies on the banks of the river Shimsha. Geographically, the town is located between 12.584169° North latitude and 77.0449° East longitude at a height of 662 meters (2175 feet) above mean sea level.

The presiding deity of he entire village was goddess Maduramma, due to this the name Maddur has been given to the city.

Maddur is a town in Mandya district in the Indian state of Karnataka. Although it has been over shadowed by the more popular Mandya city nearby but Maddur still stands as the district headquarters town. Steeped in history, this town was formerly known as Arjunapura which was situated on the banks of the River Shimsa, the town is dotted with several temples built by the Hoysalas and the Chola dynasty.

Known to have got its name from the village goddess Madduramma, Maddur's major attractions are its temples which represent the Chola architecture and contain a 12 feet tall figure of Varadaraja. The town is famous for Maddur Vadai a sumptuous fried snack that is made of a mixture of pulses.

Bangalore 80 kms is the nearest big town.

Vaidyanatheshwara Temple is not as it looks like in the photo.. its different and the place is good. Every monday there will be special pooja and anna dhasoha in the temple.... added by   anonymus on Jun 22 2011
