Located in the Baba Budan hills, Western Ghats, Karnataka, Chikmagalur is a small but pretty town in located in Chikmagalur District of Karnataka. A District, spread over an area of more than 7,200 sq km, Chikmagalur is also known across the world for its rich coffee. It is divided into seven taluks namely Chikmagalur, Kadur, Tarikere, Mudigere, Koppa, N.R.Pura and Sringeri.
Chikmagalur, also spelled as Chikkamagaluru, takes its name from a Kannada word which means, 'The town of the younger daughter'. This scenic coffee town belongs to the era when the district had been given as a dowry to the younger daughter of Rukmangada, a prominent local chieftain. Another part of the town bestowed on the elder daughter is known as Hiremagalur.
