Koppal is a town in Koppal district of Karnataka state. It is located at a distance of 380 kms from Bangalore in the northern interior of Karnataka with an area spread over 8,458 sq km. Koppal district is bounded by Raichur district in the east, Gadag district in the West, Bagalkot district in the north, Bellary district in the south.

It's believed that the place got its name as the word 'KOPPAL' was mentioned in the poetic work of the great poet Kavirajamarga (during King Nrupathunga's time of 814-878 A.D.) as "VIDITHA MAHA KOPANA NAGARA".

Koppal Fort, Mahadeva Temple, Kinhal, Kukanoor, Kanakagiri, Anegundi, Munirabad, Kankagiri, Pampa Sarovar Lake, Pura, Maadanoor Temple etc.

Koppal is famous for its temples & lakes. Locatedabout 380 km from Bangalore,the capital city of Karnataka, Koppal is a stretch of rocky terrain on one side and acres of dry land on the other wherein agricultural crops like Jowar, ground-nuts etc are grown. Its greenery attracts visitors from near and far as the attractions are a treat by itself.
As a popular destination farming is the main occupation here as Monsoons are welcomed with great enthusiasm by the locals. The place also called as 'KoppaLa' in Kannada came into existence in 1998 which was bifurcated from Raichur district.

Goa is nearly 295 kms, Bangalore 380 kms and Bijapur 202 kms.
