There is currently no airport in Chakradharpur. The nearest airport is located in Ranchi city at a driving distance of 128 kilometers. This is a fairly well developed railway station with trains running on broad gauge from various cities like Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Tatanagar, Howrah and Mumbai and most other cities in this region. All major trains, passenger and intercity expresses have their stoppage in this station. Thus one can reach Chakradharpur from any part of the country with prior booking.
One can also opt to reach Chakradharpur from Ranchi by train. Chakradharpur is the divisional headquarters of the South Eastern Railway. Hence all major trains, local trains and intercity expresses do have a stoppage in the city. One can reach Chakradharpur railway station within 3 and half hours.
The National Highway 75 E runs through the city of Chakradharpur. This highway links the major cities of Jharkhand and India to Chakradharpur. The highway passes through the cities of Jhansi, Ranchi, Chakradharpur and Chaibasa along its way. Thus Chakradharpur is well connected by road from many major cities in different states.
If one is driving down from Ranchi to Chakradharpur it would take 129 kms or 2 hours and 42 minutes to reach the city. One needs to head towards Road number 1, follow directions to turn left onto road number 4, then left again at Gate no.4, follow directions, turn right onto NH75, cross the Railway High School Road to reach Chakradharpur city.
Due to the well connectedness of Chakradharpur by road, a number of state run and private travel agencies provide bus service to this city. Buses come from many cities including Ranchi, Rourkela, Kharagpur, Chaibasa, Kolkatta, and also most of the smaller towns in Jharkhand.
