Vizianagaram Fort History-Origin-Importance-Architecture

History of Vizianagaram Fort: The fort was the built by the Gajapati Rajahs and it was the administrative capital of Gajapati kings. The city was then formed and spread around the fort and was named (Vizianagaram) after Pusapati Peda Vijaya Rama Gajapati Raju (1670 - 1756), who was one of the most prominent kings of Gajapati dynasty. The ancestors of Gajapati rajahs belong to Udaipur (formerly Mewar Kingdom) of Rajasthan. The Vizianagaram fort was built during 1712 - 1714 AD and the inauguration stone of the fort was laid on Vijaya Dasami (tenth day of Dasara festival) in the Telugu year of Vijaya.
