About Bavikonda Information-Vizag

Bavikonda (Hill of well, Bavi- Well and Konda- Hill) is also a Buddhist site located on a hill about 15kms northeast of the city. Bavikonda Monastery flourished between 3^rd century BC and 3^rd century AD. This place has remains of an entire Buddhist complex, with 26 structures belonging to three phases. A piece of bone stored in a pot was recovered from here that is supposed to be a part of the mortal remains of the Buddha. Also large quantity of ash, charcoal and earthenware with three abandoned water tanks were found in this place. A Hinayana school of Buddhism was practiced here.
