Tangutur (also known as Tanguturu) is a village located in the Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh in India. It is situated on the coastal line of Bay of Bengal and very close to the seashore. The town is surrounded by the rivers Paleru and Moosi that run down to the sea. Regarding agriculture, some cash crops like tobacco, cotton and pepper are grown in Tangutur. The tobacco grown here is one of the finest and best qualities chosen for the making of cigarettes; its quality is considered to be the world's second best where as the Virginia tobacco of USA stands first. More than 70% of the local people are engaged either directly or indirectly in the occupation of tobacco farming and tobacco based industries.
