Proddatur is one of the biggest and popular towns in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh and it is well known for its gold and cotton trade. The nearest towns are Jammalamadugu, Mydukur, Yerraguntla and the nearest city is Kadapa. The town is also styled as "Second Bombay" because a huge volume of cotton and gold business is carried out here. 

Proddatur is very famous for its gold and cotton business and stands among the best commercial towns in the state and is considered to be one of the wealthiest towns in the district as it records huge turnover in the trading of gold and cotton. And that is why the town is also known as 'Second Bombay'. Also, it has many pressing and ginning mills and some of the important trade centers in the town include the Main Bazar (for gold shops), Vastrabharathi Cloth Market, Vivekananda Cloth Market, Balaji Cloth Market and Sri Pattabhirama Mundi complex.
