Pamidi, situated near Gooty in Anantapur District of Andhra Pradesh, is famous for the temple of Lord Shiva where He resides in the form of "Bhogeswara Swami". There is yet another famous temple of Lakshmi Narayana Swami temple that is famous for its architectural splendour.
The name "Pamidi" is derived from two words in Telugu "Pamu Mudi" which means "Snake's Knot" ('Pamu'- snake in Telugu and 'Mudi'- Knot in Telugu). It is said that once a snake was found around the Shiva Lingam in the temple and hence the name "Pamu Mudi" that eventually became "Pamidi". Penna River flows from the town making it more sacred.
