The city of Kakinada is the head quarters of East Godavari District in Andhra Pradesh. The town was actually called as "Kaki Nandiwada" (and also Cocanada) and over a period of time came to be known as 'Kakinada'. The city is situated on the shore of Bay of Bengal. It makes it one of the good places to visit in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh.
There are many places, both historical and religious, where you can get a glimpse of the bygone era of the city apart from experiencing its sanctity. Very prominent and well-known temples exist on this land with bountiful sacredness. Annavaram, Antarvedi, Draksharamam, Ryali and Pithapuram are some of the places that should not be missed when you are in the town. The people of Kakinada are warm and welcoming and often make you feel-at-home. Kakinada city is also called as the "Fertilizer City" as it has one of the biggest Urea manufacturing companies called as Nagarjuna Fertilizers. Very recently many oil companies planned for a oil and gas shipment from the port of this city. This port is one of the busiest ports in Andhra Pradesh. The city has come a long way from where it stood a couple of decades ago. Once you are in town, don't forget to munch on the famous sweet of Kakinada called as 'Kotaiah Kaja'.
