Hindupur is the second largest town in the district of Anantapur and is Mandal Head Quarter. The town is 96 km away from Anantapur and 14 km from Lepakshi. It is believed that the town was named by Murari Rao (Maratha Chieftain) in remembrance of his father Hindoji Rao or after the king Hindurao. People in the town speak Urdu & Kannada apart from Telugu since it is bordered with Karnataka. The town is famous for silk, jaggery, iron, ruby, sapphire, sugar etc. The famous actor, director turned politician Mr. N.T. Rama Rao won the election from this constituency when he started his political career.
