Fateh Sagar Lake is an appealing man-made lake situated to the north of Lake Pichola; a Canal links the two lakes. This charming and tranquil Lake is bordered on three sides by Wooded Hills and a dam is constructed on the other side. The lake is pear shaped and has a road on the stone dam on the eastern side. The lake is 2.4 Km in length and 1.6 Km in width and the deepest point is 11.5 meters.
Fateh Sagar Lake is embellished by three small islands. These three islands house Nehru Park, a Public park developed by Udaipur Municipality and Udaipur Solar Observatory respectively. All these attractions are accessible by motor boats, from the mainland of Udaipur.
The largest island of the lake is developed into a park named after the first Prime Minister of India, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, as the Nehru Park. Nehru park gardens are beautifully developed and boating facility is available to get in to the garden. The lush green gardens with water fountains, flower gardens and a lily pond offer an eye-soothing view for the tourists. The garden has a boat-shaped restaurant and a small zoo for children. This island park is a favored picnic spot.
Udaipur City Public Park
The second island is converted into a public park with brilliant water-jet fountains by the Government of Rajasthan.
Udaipur Solar Observatory
The third island of Fateh Sagar Lake houses one of the largest observatories of Asia. It was built in 1976, based on the model of Solar Observatory at Big Bear Lake of California.
