Mullayanagiri, about 16 km from Chikmagalur town and the part of Baba Budan Giri Hill Ranges, is the tallest peak in Karnataka (about 1930 meters). This place is ideal for watching the sunsets. Trekking to Mullayanagiri is one of the sought-after trekking paths in Karnataka. Driving to Mullayanagiri gives you one of the thrilling experiences but it is worth taking a risk, though you cannot directly drive till the top. Half of the way you have to trek to reach the peak. On the way there is "Sitalayanagiri" where you have Lord Shiva temple and a source of water that neither increases nor decreases. The road to Mullayanagiri is very narrow with the views from steep cliffs. There is a small temple on top of the hill. On a clear day you can be fortunate enough to see the Arabian Sea from the top of this hill. The small hillock in the temple compound is the actual highest point in Karnataka. Be careful while driving as the narrow road to the temple makes two-way traffic impossible.
