Batote is about 14 kms from Patnitop Mountain Range with the Chenab Gorge in the vicinity. Batote also has agricultural lands where Rajma (kidney beans) is cultivated.
Under the Indus Water Treaty between India and Pakistan, India shares waters of Rivers Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Sutlej, Beas and Ravi with Pakistan. River Chenab – Jammu and Kashmir State’s major river which originates and runs along the Upper Himalayas forms the Chenab Gorge. Batote offers amazing views of this Chenab Gorge. Far from the cluttered concrete jungles where we live in, the view of the Chenab with its sloping dense green canopy sprawling the entire 180 degree expanse around Batote, is refreshing and reinvigorating. Trekking through the thick forests of Batote is an activity that nature-lovers would enjoy – especially the summer-treks as then the bird-watching would also be possible. In winters, all the birds fly south.
If you’re not already into exploring and discovering newer territories on foot, you must begin now. After all, it is in keeping with the age-old passion of our ancestors! Besides, it is also keeping our health in check amidst fresh and peaceful landscapes. From Batote you may trek up to either Patnitop (14 kms) or to Sanasar (19 kms) where you will find Adventure sports like paragliding, skiing and hotair ballooning to indulge in.
