Located on the outskirts of Dhamtari city across the River Mahanadi is the Gangrel Dam which contributes a major share in the prosperity and development of Dhamtari region with the provision of water for cultivation. Also known as the Ravi Shankar Sagar Dam, this dam supplies regular water to the local farmers for their paddy crops. Additionally, they may even consider raising crops twice a year. The plant is built with a 10 MW of hydro-electric power capacity.
This dam is popular for its sunset and several people come here every year for picnic. The place has a lot of tourists from all locations of Chhattisgarh and others specifically during rainy season when the dam is full with water and tides are created providing a beautiful sight.
