Srisailam Dam is one of the 12 largest hydroelectric projects in the country. This dam is constructed across the Krishna River, the second largest river in India, in the Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh and stands 300 meters above the sea-level. This dam stretches 512 meters long and has 12 radial c274 thousand million cubic feetrest gates with a height to hold the water level of 885 feet. It has a live storage of . Nearly 102 villages, located along the banks of River Krishna, in Kurnool and Mahbubnagar Districts, were flooded in the water during its construction.
